FAQ: What is the best way to name the combination of a crossing-over with alleles of the same genes or epistatic genes?
During the last seminars we were asked how to name the combinations of crossing-overs with alleles of the same gene (or epistatic genes).
Actually, we can do it in two ways. Or we first note the combination of alleles and link the crossing-over to it (eg: Blue1Blue2-blue1 or Blue1Blue2-blue2). Or we first note the crossing-over and link the mutated allele to it (Blue1-blue2Blue2 of blue1-Blue2Blue1). With the second option, we have to take into account that we start the names of the alleles that are combined with a capital letter (as with the normal combinations of alleles e.g. Blue1Blue2)
As usual I invited a number of enthusiasts via google meet to discuss this and everyone preferred to mention the crossing-over first and only then the combined allele. We will therefore apply this in the future.
